2011 State Tournament Recap

U10

The U10 Lady Osprey team finished up a strong season with a State Championship this past weekend in Great Falls. This was the 4th tournament the Lady Osprey won this summer, finishing with a 37-5 record. At the State Tournament the Lady Osprey went 5-0 scoring 65 runs. In the Championship game Maiti Anderson had two rbi, Marial Warren had a great defensive game with a unassisted double play, Amber Hickethier continued her dominating pitching with eight strike outs. The Lady Osprey were a very good hitting and defensive team, and had one of the best pitchers in the state with Amber Hickethier.

U12 Blue

The U12 Blue team finished the statue tournament in the top 4 teams. This is quite an accomplishment in a 21 team field. they opened with Polson on Friday night getting a 5-4 win. They tehn defeated the Great Falls Selectes Green on Saturday morning setting up a game with the Bitterroot Sparks. They lost that game moving them to the losers bracket where the battled with Polson one more time. They wond this game in an international tie breaker. the team was gassed and were not able to get past the Great Falls Selects White to earn the top 4 finish.

U12 Black

The U12 Black team had a rough state tournament losing two games. The upside is that they battled in both games and the final game was against a team from Butte that had a 7 run lead early in the game. The team battled back to eventually lose the game in extra inning using the international tie breaker. They were literally two inches away from winning that game as a line shot to center field was gloved with the winning run on second.

U14

The U 4 team ended the state tournament in the top 8. A real good showing for a new team. The team grew from day one and showed that they never gave up by the end of the state tournament. They were down 5 runs in the 5th inning in their opening game and came back to win that game. They then ended up losing to the eventual second place finishers. All in all a pretty good showing.

U16

The U16 teams lost the first game of the tournament to thier nemeses the Billings Bulldogs. They came back the next morning to handle the Fergus Fury. After a quick lunch break they were back on the field to face yet another Billings Bulldogs Blues team. They came up a short in that contest and the season ended. All of the girls performed very well and The coaches (Matt Cuuffe and bill Miller) are as proud as can be of each girl.
